Spike Engelman

Spike (Michael) Engelman is an Employee Benefits Advisor for Horton’s Employee Benefits Solutions Division. He is responsible for providing Horton clients with comprehensive, cost-effective, and innovative solutions to meet their most complex, risk-related challenges and needs.

Spike works hard to understand each of his clients’ needs, demographics and options available for employers to create unique health benefit offerings. His favorite aspect of his role is being able to help organizations that haven’t had access to healthcare in the past find solutions available to them.

“My entire career has been dedicated to helping small to mid-sized clients in all fashions of benefits, payroll, HCM and more,” he said. “Clients and customer service go hand in hand, and at the end of the day, they ultimately make or break you. If I don’t continuously support my clients and offer great customer service, then I have failed as a consultant.”

Spike has been complimented on finding unique strategies and ideas for his clients to overcome the biggest challenges in the insurance industry.

“The insurance industry is expensive, complex, and difficult to navigate,” he said. “We need to find a way to ensure every employee, family, and business can find affordable and easy-to-understand solutions.”

Spike is originally from Herscher, IL, a small farm town outside of Kankakee, IL, and comes from a family heavily involved in education – his father is a retired principal, and his mother, two brothers, sister and brother-in-law are all teachers. Outside of Horton, Spike is heavily involved in the Level Up Social Club, a monthly business networking organization he founded in 2021. He also produces and DJs his own music and is an ordained minister.
