CHICAGO (June 18, 2024) – The Horton Group, an industry leading insurance broker, has hired Alex Hayes as Tax Practice Group Leader, effective immediately. Alongside the rest of The Horton Group’s insurance team, Alex will provide responsive and innovative solutions to clients.

With over 30 years of tax experience, Hayes brings a deep understanding and substantial expertise to Horton regarding conducting training sessions for numerous tax and M&A advisors. He specializes in providing innovative and timely tax insurance solutions for renewable energy projects and various transactional and non-transactional tax risks.

“I’m delighted to welcome Alex as our new tax insurance practice leader,” Dan Horton, CEO of the Horton Group, said. “Tax insurance is a vital risk management tool in the renewable energy sector, in M&A transactions, and as part of an overall risk management strategy for our clients. Alex’s experience in industry and client service will be incredibly valuable.”

Hayes entered the tax insurance business in 2023, but before that, he provided sophisticated M&A and international tax services in industry and consulting roles. Most recently, he was a Tax Partner with SoftBank Group, working on major transactions, including the Sprint/T-Mobile merger, which closed in 2020. Before his SoftBank role, Alex was a Director at Deloitte Tax LLP, advising corporate clients on cross-border M&A, global expansion and restructurings.

“I’m incredibly excited to join The Horton Group team, and look forward to working with my Horton Group colleagues and clients in order to help our clients mitigate their tax risks,” Hayes says. “Massive demand for tax insurance has followed the explosion in renewable energy projects made possible through the Inflation Reduction Act, as well as the increasingly complex tax landscape our clients face during transactions or as part of their regular business. For tax insurance especially, the market is still in its infancy. There is a lot of growth ahead.”

Hayes is a member of the Washington State Bar and is working to obtain his Property & Casualty broker’s license. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from San Jose State University.
