Mark Bagwell is a Senior Vice President for Horton’s Business Insurance Division. In this role, Mark is responsible for growing and managing Horton’s client base in middle market construction and manufacturing. He is part of a team that provides clients with comprehensive, cost-effective, and innovative solutions to meet their most complex, risk-related challenges.

Prior to joining Horton, Mark worked as an account manager for Aerotek Commercial Staffing and then as a Senior Sales Manager for Markel-First Comp. These roles allowed him to develop a vast knowledge of the manufacturing and insurance industries, along with the critical ability to develop strong relationships with clients. Mark stated that being able to apply these skills in his role at Horton has made the job a perfect fit for him.

Mark recognizes that the commercial insurance market remains very soft, with aggressive pricing in all lines excluding commercial auto. He believes that this stems from increased focus at the customer level on safety, risk management, and driving down claims. “Insurance company profits are at near all-time highs, and it’s our job as brokers to drive down costs for our clients.”

Marks shines in his role as a Senior Vice President through his strong interpersonal skills and his attention to detail. He works to embody these characteristics every day when assisting his clients. “In working on any project in this job, you have to be focused on the details. Insurance programs and clients are dependent upon the fine points of their coverage to protect their businesses. Having an intensive focus on details provides my clients with the comfort that I won’t miss any details, no matter how minor.”

On top of paying close attention to detail, Mark feels that the most crucial aspect of his job is customer service and always working his hardest on behalf of his clients. “We are selling our clients an intangible product and asking them to trust us with large amounts of money. In turn, it’s our responsibility to provide them with phenomenal customer service and always have their best interests in mind.”

In his free time, Mark enjoys exercising, working in his yard, and golfing. He is on the board of 3 local organizations while also coaching Youth Baseball, but above all, Mark enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids.
